Practical interpretation and manufacturing use
EBITDA margin measures operating earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization as a percentage of revenue. It is useful for comparing operating performance, but should be interpreted alongside cash and capital requirements.
Formula
EBITDA Margin = EBITDA ÷ Revenue × 100
How to use this KPI
- Track the margin trend and investigate changes by product, customer, site or operating driver.
- Do not treat EBITDA as a substitute for cash-flow or working-capital analysis.
- Use consistent accounting definitions across periods and business units.
